Visit Chapala!
It doesn't matter if you are making your first
visit to the Lakeside area, or if you come here every year. Things
change. Businesses come and go. The weather, while almost always
good, changes from season to season, and with it the flora and
fauna you encounter will change. The Mexican government makes a
game of changing its rules and policies -- sometimes new rules
are scheduled to go into effect, but detailed guidance hasn't been
written up, so nobody knows what to do.
We will look at some of these things and provide practical
advice on how best to proceed. But no matter how well prepared you are,
be ready for some suprises. Things rarely go smoothly if you have a
detailed plan and meticulous schedule. It takes longer than you expect
for the simple things. Be flexible. Stay calm. Be polite. Things will
work out ... eventually.
Note:
Regarding business descriptions in Mexico -- the law
here is different from what you may be used to in the U.S. or Canada.
Making derogatory statements about a professional individual or a
particular business in public is likely to get you sued. It does not
matter if you were telling the truth, if they can show your statements
have or are likely to hurt their business, they win. That is why you
don't see any negative statements in the local papers here, or on most
of the websites. Generally, we follow mother's edict: If you can't say
something nice...
