Mexican Construction Project -- The Colima Project: Casita Chuparosa

español

Ignacio Allende y Unzaga 1779-1811

Ignacio José Allende was born in San Miguel el Grande, today known as San Miguel Allende in his honor. He was one of the conspirators against the Spanish government, and Miquel Hidalgo's primary supporter and confidant. His participation in the fight for independence was particularly valuable because of his experience as a career military man. He knew how to control the numerous but inexpert army raised by the revolutionaries. He participated in many battles, such as the assult on Alhóndiga de Granaditas, the battle of Monte de la Cruces and the fight at Calderón Bridge. At this last-named battle the revolutionaries suffered a serious defeat, and Allende, Hidalgo, Aldama and Abasolo, were all apprehended and executed.
